More often it is the cases that even though free lancing jobs are irregular because they pay so well that there is no requirement for constantly needing to work. For example, a good web developer in India can rake in almost 6-8 lakhs in a year. This is higher than most starting off packages. That being said, free Lancing jobs need not be irregular, they are highly dependent on the quality of work and the good word of mouth. If one is capable enough one can earn a decent and comfortable living.
2. Freelancing jobs do not pay well – Did you know that a voice-over artist can earn about 1 lakh a month simply by grabbing governmental contracts for translating government advertisements? It is entirely dependent on the skill-set on the individual. There are a lot of unheard jobs that pay extremely well. Another example is that of subtitle technicians who write subtitles translations for foreign or regional language films and movies. You have to just find out where you are providing your unique skill-set to the best of your abilities.
3. Freelancing jobs have a tough time getting paid for their work – This can be true if you are engaging a new client, but more often you receive work mostly from trusted sources. If your work is good enough and meets the criteria of your client, they would want to give more work to you. The field functions on fiduciary relationships based on trust that is important for both the client and the freelance worker. One always has the option to ensure that there is some written agreement between the two parties that can be held against the other.
4. Freelancing is a temporary phenomenon – While even this sector is susceptible to market conditions, there is always great deal of work for worthy people. One needs to gauge sectors which more insulated from market conditions like recession. For example, being a skilled bartender can always get you job even in recession as people tend to drink more when the market is down. So it’s being simply smart enough to make your skill-set according to market trends.
